the bottom line: 1 part water :: 8 parts sand.

Here's a write-up of the study. Next, we need someone to look into how to pack the best snowball.
This paper, while compelling, does not reference the seminal insights of Sidney Nagel and thus, does not meet my standard of sandpile scholarship. It will also soon be true that science journals will be issued in DVD form so that you can watch the movies (in this case, the images of sand pile flow).
We're going to have to wait until next year for the next posting!!
